New events falling under the auspices of Modern Pentathlon

2016 Triathle rules

UIPM Laser Run Competition Guidelines 2016

Hi All Modern Pentathletes and Biathletes,

This email is just to let you all know about upcoming new events and news in our sport.

I attended a SAMPA National Board meeting in Cape Town last week, and there was a lot discussed and decided upon with regards to the future of the sport.

This included a lot about attendance at national and international events, awarding of colours, etc etc (I will send out other info at a later date as well.)

1) BIATHLE qualification for SA Biathle Champs:

Due to the change in race distances this last year, and because there are no previous points of reference with regards to a qualification time for SA Champs. FOR THIS year the National body is allowing each province to send up to a maximum of 8 athletes, per age and per gender to the SA Championships.

This is as long as the athletes have met the provincial race requirements of attendance at league races, district champs and provincial champs.

2) NEW EVENT – TRIATHLE (run/swim/shoot)

This was an event that started last year , and happens the day after SA Biathle Champs, the SA Triathle Champs consists of athletes combining a shooting component to a Biathle.

The shooting takes place with an electronic laser pistol.

I have attached a copy of the rules of the event, for those interested in knowing more.

3) NEW EVENT – LASER RUN (run/shoot)

This is also known as the Combined Event and is the last event in Modern Pentathlon Competition. This has now become a discipline in its own right.

This is also with a electronic laser pistol.

I have attached a copy of the rules of the event, for those interested in knowing more.

(These 2 events require the use of a very expensive pistol (approx. R 17 000 per pistol), the province at the moment does have 1 and we are trying to purchase a 2nd one.

But because of the cost, we will be limited in how many athletes we will be able to cope with at one time, and how we structure the events.)

The KZN Committee will send out more info in the coming weeks.

In these 2 events we will also be holding league events and provincial Champs (here we can send a maximum of 4 athletes per age, per gender to the respective SA Champs.)

All 3 sports have a SA Champs and a World Champs.

I hope this wets your appetite, and answers some questions about qualifying for SA Champs.

Please also check the KZN Modern Pentathlon website and facebook page for more info as well.
